Dear Fellow Rotarians,

This week has certainly been a week of reflection on the extremely successful All Holden Car Show.
I am so proud of our Club, our members and their partners and also the Rotarians from Casey, Berwick & Belgrave, without all of you it would not have been possible to run such a great event.

The feedback has been ever so positive and there's already excitement about next year's event.

Please be sure to read David Button's report in the Rotary Club of Berwick's newsletter (attached to this Gateway).
It makes all the hard work all the more rewarding when we hear such amazing feedback.

Thanks to David for writing such an interesting article.  David's words are so true, 'we are one Rotary'.
When we work together we achieve amazing things!

'Many of us get involved with Rotary to do Community Projects. Don't be shy to volunteer on a Rotary Project, because volunteering is just like a box of chocolates - who knows what you will find!'

'We are one Rotary, so step outside your Club, District, or Zone and make Rotary happen'.

On Friday I enjoyed spending some time visiting Geoff and Jan Brown, they are both doing quite well and send their thanks to all members for the plant and gifts I dropped into them on behalf of the Club.  They were very keen to hear how things are going at Rotary.

This weekend some of our wonderful Rotarians assisted Casey Rotary Club at the Holland Festival in Berwick.  I've seen many of the photo's posted on Facebook and can see that their event was also a great success.  Congratulations to all at Casey Rotary Club.

I'm please to report that our donation of $10,000 to Monash Children's Cancer Centre has been transferred into their bank account.  The staff at Monash are extremely grateful and excited about our generous donation.

They have invited a small group of us to attend a 'Morning Tea' on Thursday May 25th, when we will be able to have a look over the centre and meet with Dr. Peter Downie, who is
the head of Paediatric Haematology-Oncology and Director of the Children's Cancer Centre at Monash Children's Hospital.

Invitations will be sent to those selected to attend, including Kam & Christine Pow, their daughter Emily and the owners of the Shangri La Restaurant at Forest Hill, Mr Phoon & Mary.
What a fantastic effort they all put in to make it possible for us to raise over $8,000 (including some very generous donations from members in our club) the Board agreed to top up the funds to $10K.

I'd like to thank Kam, Christine, Mr Phoon & Mary, all Rotarians & partners and the many friends of Kam & Christine who were all very keen to support this event.

This week is another busy one with our Club meeting and Board meeting on Tuesday night and the Cornerstone meal service on Thursday.

Please be sure to put your intention to attend these events or your apology (Decline) on ClubRunner to enable us to plan appropriately and have an accurate indication of numbers.

Please keep checking out all our Upcoming Events on ClubRunner and put the dates in your diaries.

I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday night.

Kind regards,

Leanne

Car Show Club Reflections
A great story from David Button from the Rotary Club of Berwick who volunteered for our Car Show last week.
His observations reflect the importance of Rotary Clubs helping out other Clubs in Projects and the wonderful
experience of volunteering.

Kicking in with the crew

Posted by David Button on Mar 12, 2023
There is nothing better than getting up at 5.00am on a Sunday morning just for the pleasure of making a difference! That's what Trevor, Russell and myself did last Sunday to help the Rotary Club of Dandenong- Endeavour Hills with their major fundraising event, The All Holden Car Show.

Firstly, I love working with other Rotary Clubs on their events. It broadens my network, feeds in new ideas and concepts and I get the whole event experience, while I do my best in a minor day job. Months of planning could be tossed down the sink just by me not doing a good job. Pressure!!

My job was to point each car into the right direction, usually handballing them to Russell or Trevor. I was surprised by the frequent comments of appreciation for what Rotary does for this event.

Every part of this event was being judged by the participants, the public and the ruling bodies (councils, car clubs etc.). To get positive comments early in means that Rotary was getting it right for this event.

Apart from organising perfect Car Show weather, we as volunteers should appreciate our ability to deliver customer service, and in this case maybe I shouldn't have been surprised at all. This event was well organised and well run.

The morning started out well with a blank canvas. Zero cars! Our ranks were depleted by the late arrival of five from RC Belgrave (the A team of parkers), so Rus and Trev took the hard job of parking, while I took the easier meeter, greeter and handballer role.

From a personal perspective, I loved to meet other people with passion, just like I have about Rotary. I loved to learn about the backstory of their vehicles, how they found them, and who they connected with along the way.

Four hours later, here is our work unfolded. A great morning out, filled with good vibes and Trevor even won third prize in the raffle. Happy Days!

Many of us get involved with Rotary to do Community Projects. Don't be shy to volunteer on a Rotary Project, because volunteering is just like a box of chocolates - who knows what you will find!

We are one Rotary, so step outside your Club, District, or Zone and make Rotary happen.
