This week's meeting featured an insightful presentation by Olga Ghiri from Cleanaway. Olga shared her expertise on waste management and sustainability practices, highlighting the importance of responsible waste disposal and the innovative solutions Cleanaway is implementing to reduce environmental impact.
Her presentation was both informative and thought-provoking, inspiring our members to consider how we can contribute to a cleaner, greener community.

Endeavour Hills Men's Shed
Earlier this month, our own John Ternel had the pleasure of visiting the Men’s Shed in Endeavour Hills. This visit was a fantastic opportunity to connect with the members of the Men’s Shed and witness firsthand the incredible work they’re doing in our community. John was deeply impressed by their dedication and the positive impact they’re making.

Since many of the Men’s Shed members were unavailable during John’s visit, John is planning a follow-up visit in the near future.
Rotary D9815 Youth Program - MUNA 2024
The Rotary District 9815 MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly) is happening in the Auditorium at Lyndale Secondary College, Dandenong North on Saturday 17 August, starting with the Flag Procession at 9.00am. The preferred school entry is via Halton Road which will be clearly identified.
Gabrielle Williams, State MP Dandenong, and Minister for Government Services, Consumer Affairs, and Public & Active Transport, will address delegates on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Humanitarian Issues. Twenty-eight delegations, representing UN-member states, will debate four resolutions, with each debate lasting 75 minutes.
Our Club is proudly sponsoring two teams from Lyndale, and we encourage our members to attend and show their support.

Call for Volunteers: Playground Relocation at Rosehill Park
The Rotary Club of Boronia is seeking volunteers to assist with a playground relocation at Rosehill Park, Rachelle Road, Keilor East. The event is scheduled for Monday, 19th August, starting at 8:00 AM.
The project involves the removal of two playground items, including a larger piece as shown in the image above. Your help would be greatly appreciated in ensuring the successful relocation of these structures.
We encourage anyone available to join us in this effort to enhance our community spaces. Thank you in advance for your support!
Upcoming Event: R U OK Day at Chisholm
Chisholm will be holding its annual R U OK Day event on Wednesday, 11 September. This initiative aims to promote mental health and well-being among trade students.
Chisholm will be running a BBQ for their trade students once again this year. Our involvement in this event has been greatly appreciated in the past, and we’re looking forward to participating again. If you’re interested in helping out with the BBQ, please let us know. Your support will make a big difference!
In addition to assisting with the BBQ, we have the chance to set up our own Rotary stall this year. This is a wonderful opportunity to promote Rotary and connect with the community.
Last year, our presence at the event was a great success, thanks to the efforts of Ben Keller, Lynn, Ken, and Leanne.

Selection for 2026-27 Rotary International President
Sangkoo Yun, a member of the Rotary Club of Sae Hanyang, Seoul, Korea, is the selection of the Nominating Committee or President to become Rotary International’s president for 2026-27.
Yun will officially become the nominee on 15 September if no other candidates challenge him.
At the recent Rotary International Convention in Singapore, the End Polio Now campaign was prominently featured, reflecting Rotary’s ongoing commitment to polio eradication. The event included various sessions and activities focused on this critical initiative.
Key highlights included:
Interviews: World Health Organization Polio Eradication Director Aidan O’Leary and Rotary member Tayyaba Gul discussed the current status and challenges of the global effort to eradicate polio.
Auction: 2023-24 Trustee Chair Barry Rassin conducted an auction, where an End Polio Now hat was sold, with all funds directed toward supporting polio eradication.
Flight to End Polio: Rotary members John Ockenfels and Peter Teahen shared the details of their mission to raise awareness and funds for polio eradication through their unique flight project.
WASH Project: Groundbreaking Ceremony at Shree Purna Sanjiwani Lankhanamai School
A significant milestone was achieved with the successful completion of the groundbreaking ceremony for the new toilet facilities at Shree Purna Sanjiwani Lankhanamai School. The ceremony was attended by the ward chairperson, school staff, and esteemed Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Dhulikhel.
Currently, the school has only four toilets to serve over 340 students, highlighting the urgent need for improved sanitation infrastructure. This initiative is part of the Global Grant WASH in School Project Nepal (GG2350783), with the Rotary Club of Northbridge serving as the international partner.
Funding for this project comes from the Rotary Club of Balwyn, District 5300 (including RC Temecula Sunrise and RC Temecula), District 9685, and The Rotary Foundation.
Friendship is essential to our mental and physical health. Yet studies have shown a decline in the number of close friends that most adults in the U.S. have. Rotary has proven to be a valuable antidote to this “friendship recession” for many members.
