Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Last Tuesday's joint meeting with Rowville-Lysterfield Rotary Club was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance. We were made feel very welcome by all their members, the meal was delicious and we listened to two fabulous presentations.
Frida Umuhoza's presentation was truly inspiring, she is a courageous, brave and determined lady, we were all deeply moved and shed a few tears while listening to her incredibly powerful recount of surviving the genocide in Rwanda back in 1994.
I have invited Frida to come along to speak at our club on Tuesday April 11th, to which we will invite Rotarians, partners and friends from other clubs in our cluster to join us.
Robin Yamaguchi, the Director of Family Care Uganda spoke about her school which caters for the poorest of people in the far north of Uganda.
Despite many of the students not being able to speak English, they excel with consistently gaining A & B grades in the National Examination. The schools very high standard has been maintained despite the impact of COVID and the lengthy school closures.
The D9810 Conference was fantastic, we had the opportunity to listen to a great deal of amazing speakers including Frida, enjoyed a 'Black Tie' dinner at Parliament House in the Great Hall and met some very inspiring Rotarians.
Our own Peter Faulkner and his lovely wife Lois, did a fabulous job manning the DAA stand in the Showcase. The SkyHydrants sparked a great deal of interest, particularly after Peter's informative presentation on Sunday morning. Well done to Peter & Lois!
A huge THANK YOU to Cherie, Hans and Janet for representing our Rotary Club on Sunday morning for CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY at Rotary Park in Dandenong.
Let's hope that next year we have a large representation from our club at this event.
I hope to see many of you at tomorrow night's meeting.
Kind regards,
Leanne
