Dear Fellow Rotarians,

I feel absolutely privileged to have had the opportunity to spend the past 6 days in Canberra at the Zone 8 District Governor Nominee's training and Zone 8 Conference.
It provided an opportunity to meet so many new people from Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands and was the most inspirational, informative and motivating event I have ever attended.

Admittedly, I was feeling a little nervous and uncertain prior to leaving for Canberra, however those feelings have now been replaced by enthusiasm and excitement about my future Rotary experience.

The theme 'Better Together' certainly rang true!  The Conference was a combined event of Rotaracters & Rotarians, all of whom are talented, passionate, full of energy and enthusiasm.
Hence the reason Rotaract and Rotary compliment each other and are successful in making such a difference to the lives of so many people around the world.

There was so much positivity and excitement throughout the entire 6 days, much of it due to the fact that we were all able to meet and socialise in person once again.

It was wonderful to have Brian Ashworth and Peter Faulkner at the Showcase, there was a great deal of interest and endless number of positive comments about the SkyHydrants.

The END POLIO walk was a fabulous end to an incredible experience.

Some of us will be attending the Rotary Club of Casey's 'Wheelchairs for Kids' event tomorrow night which I'm sure will be a very successful fundraiser.

On behalf of all our club members, I wish Cherie Ramsay a very speedy recovery from a recent back problem.
I hope everyone else is staying healthy and well.

On a final note, after hearing lots of stories about Rotary Clubs and projects it reinforces how fortunate we are to be members of such a great club.

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you again very soon.

Kind regards,

Leanne

Changeover 2022/2023

Changeover night 5 July 2022-23

Oh, what a night!

Around 70 Members Partners and special guests arrived at St James Hall to find it set up beautifully by Margo Hartley. Floral decorations and bottles of wine and soft drink adorned the tables. You could have been forgiven for thinking you had just arrived by mistake at a wedding reception!

Except for Howard, Gaith and his family had a table to themselves!
MC Graeme Peters called on Martin to do the Invocation and, once everyone was seated, introduced the many guests, including PDGs Bill Degnan, Mark Humphries, Janne and Charlie Speirs and DGE Linda Humphries, as well as representatives of local organisations with which the Club is connected.
Past AG Allan Collier delivered the Toast to Rotary International, to which Mark responded.
Next was the presentation of Paul Harris Fellows Awards to community members Naomi Patterson and Roslyn and Robert Daniels, as well as Club Members. Neil Fullard, Terry Valentine, Joe Iellamo and Graeme Peters all received Sapphire Pins. All were highly deserved.

After Grace and dinner, Pres. Peter Buck reflected on the prior year’s activities, the year being very successful in terms of project achievement, despite Covid 19 restrictions and thanked everyone for their contributions.

MC Peter called on PDG Bill to conduct the inauguration of Pres Leanne Byron, which was cemented by the handover of the President’s Collar, pin and the Charter, and a presentation of pin to Peter. A gift from the Club was presented to Peter for his hard work and flowers to Tina.

Pres Leanne delivered her inaugural speech, in which she briefly outlined her objectives and Projects for the year ahead. She then introduced the incoming Directors and Officeholders.
After dessert, PDG Bill inducted Lilani De Alwis, who gave a brief, but excellent, speech on what she expects to bring to Rotary and why she joined. This was followed by PDG Janne presenting pins to the women in Rotary.

A special award was presented to Graeme Coates to recognise 50 years as a Rotarian.

PDG Janne Spiers presented Women in Rotary badges to our "growing" diversity in the Club
PP Kam gave out copies of his astonishingly good Centenary Yearbook. Kam put an enormous amount of work into producing the ultimate memoir of his Presidential year. Colin also contributed his time to proof reading and checking the facts, Well done!!!

MC Graeme, who did a masterful job as MC, thanked everyone and closed the Meeting.
Pres Leanne did a terrific job in putting together a wonderful night, along with Margo Hartley, and the use of St James’ Hall proved to be “inspirational”!
Thanks again to Graeme Peters.
At the end of the meeting our Community guests were excited to hear about what our Club and Rotary do to change the lives of people in the community. It was also
pleasing to hear that 4 of the Community guests are now considering joining Rotary, This is the way to grow our membership by working with like minded people  supporting
the community.

Rotary Centenary Year Book

Hi Kam,
I have just finished reading the Rotary 2020-2021 Centenary Book that you have put together for our Rotary Club.
Kam what a wonderful Rotarian you are to put all those hours in to produce this wonderful book as part of the Clubs history.
Other Rotary Clubs would be so envious of what you have done for our Club, as I am so grateful as a Rotarian that our club has been so fortunate to have such a hardworking, and caring person of your calibre our Rotary Club.

Neil & I value your and Christine's friendship always.

Warm regards,
Val

Free Training in Food Safety

Given the increasing number of requests for our Rotary BBQ service, it is advisable that more members undertake Food Safety training to avoid any potential food poisoning of our customers.

Everyone who works with food is responsible for the delivery of safe food to the customer. All food premises, including for-profit businesses, community and not-for-profit groups, that sell food are legally required to ensure that the food they prepare is safe for people to eat, regardless of the type or class of food sold.

The Victorian Food Act (1984) separates food premises into four classes based on the food safety risks of their highest risk food handling activity. Different requirements and obligations apply for each of the four classes of food premises and the Act sets out what must be done to make sure that the food sold in each class is safe to eat.

Sausage sizzles, where only sausages (with or without onions, sauce and bread) are cooked and served immediately, are class 4 – the lowest level of regulation. As a class 4, you may also carry out any other class 4 food activities, such as selling bottled water or soft drinks.

Food handlers at a sausage sizzle do not have to attend accredited food safety training courses to meet the skills and knowledge requirements for handling food safely. The Do Food Safely is a free, online food handlers' learning program provided by the Department of Health and Human Services' Food Safety Unit.

The program is designed for food handlers and can be used as a learning tool for volunteers and staff. It takes about an hour to complete, and a Certificate of Completion is issued to those who achieve a score of at least 90 per cent on the quiz at the end of the program. The quiz consists of 30 multiple choice quesions.

All Club members are encouraged to do the Do Food Safety program and undertake the assessment at the end.  The more members who have undertaken Food Safety handling, the more flexible, safe and reliable our service will be.

You can find the free program at: https://dofoodsafely.health.vic.gov.au.
