Dear Fellow Rotarians,

This weekend provided an experience which I believe all Rotarians should have the opportunity to take part in at some stage in their Rotary journey.
The District 9820 Conference at Cape Schanck on the Mornington Peninsula was a welcoming, friendly, fun and inspirational event.

Unfortunately I didn't get to listen to some of the amazing guest speakers due to being unwell, however the presentations I did see and hear were exceptional.

Kevin Sheedy was a highlight at this morning's breakfast, if we could all take on some of his dynamic leadership approach, insight and determination, we could certainly change this world we live in.

I was extremely disappointed to miss Samuel Johnson yesterday, the feedback about his presentation was incredible and I was told there was not a dry eye to be seen in the room of more than 200 people.

It's such a pity that Conferences are often out of financial reach for some Rotarians.
Next year's conference will be in Warrnambool where there is sure to be some 'Budget Accommodation' and the opportunity for those with caravans to hook them up and take a trip to Conference.
If we start planning soon, I'm sure we can get many of our club members to put the dates in their diaries and in their budgets, then begin planning for a wonderful break and fellowship at what's sure to be another amazing event.

On a club note now, a huge thank you to Martin Pater for running last Tuesday's meeting in my absence and to Phil for being the Chairperson.
I believe the two guest speakers were really good and everything went well including the change of the meeting format for the arrival and fellowship.
I heard from several people that the dinners were delivered promptly and that Julia did a fabulous job assisting the other staff in order to make this work for us.

Thanks to John Ternel for all his hard work and the Car Show Committee assisting to organise this huge event, which is taking place on Sunday 12th March.

We have 12 club members attending the Rowville-Lysterfield joint meeting on Tuesday night for dinner and to hear Frida Umuhoza, survivor of the genocide of Tutsi people in Rwanda.
I look forward to catching up on Tuesday night with those of you who are going and hope to see others the following week at the Dandenong Club.

Kind regards,

Leanne

Club Night 21st Feb 2023
Last week we had 2 excellent speakers. First, we had Martin Green from Beleura House in Mornington. A wonderful presentation on the history
of the State-listed 19th Century heritage house set amidst five hectares of gardens. The house is exceptional for its collection and includes the
original furnishings of its last owner John Tallis.

Our second speaker was Richard Parker from Hand Brake Turn. Hand Brake Turn assists people between 15-25 to transition into education and
employment pathways through a 5-week training program offering 3 days per week of technical skills practice and life development skills.

Cornerstone Meal Service
Last Thursday, the Club provided a BBQ meal to the Cornerstone community. A great effort by
Kam, Ben, Janet and Ken and Margaret to cook and serve at Cornerstone. Leanne did much of the preparation but
was unable to attend due to ill health.

As a Club, we provide this service every month. Next month we are planning to prepare the meal at
Cornerstone once their new Kitchen is completed.

As a Club member, please consider volunteering at Cornerstone as your service commitment and help
rotate the few dedicated volunteers who help each month.

District 9820 Conference
What a wonderful District Conference this weekend held at the RACV Cape Schanck Resort. Fantastic speakers, great venue and catching up with
the other Clubs in the District. President Leanne and Colin, Cherie, Peter and Lois and Phil all attended from our Club. Peter, Lois and Cherie had
a DAA Display in the House of Friendship. The theme this year was Leadership. The speakers included Jessie Harman Director on the Board of Rotary International,
Kate Roffey President of the Melbourne Football Club, Julie and Jordy Kay two incredible young entrepreneurs who founded Great Wrap a material
science company on a mission to end human reliance on petroleum-based plastics.  Samuel Johnson spoke about his charity 'Love Your Sister' which was
inspired when his sister Connie was diagnosed with Cancer. Not a dry eye in the house. Great projects in East Gippsland and Rosebud Rye were showcased.
On Sunday morning the breakfast speaker was Kevin Sheedy speaking about leadership in football and life.

A big challenge for next year is to have more of our members attend next year's Conference in Warrnambool. It is so important to see what great work
Rotary does in our community, nationally and internationally.

Clean Up Australia Day

Clean Up Australia Day

Can you imagine the good we could do, if all of Australia came together on one day and took practical action to improve the environment? What a difference we could make! Let's see how many people we can bring together on Sunday 5 March and make a real impact...

It's hard to believe that what was started over thirty years ago, by Ian Kiernan, AO, an "average Australian" who had a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard has now become the nation's largest community-based environmental event, held annually on the first Sunday in March.

Over twenty million Aussies have stepped up over the years, donating their time to improve the environment. Registration for Clean Up Australia Day is free for communities and schools (businesses pay a small fee) and this ensures that not only are you covered by our public liaibility insurance, but you'll receive a free Clean Up Australia kit.

Rtn Anthony Brown is registering our Club to participate in  Clean Up Australia Day. Our area will be Rotary Park in Dandenong.
More details to follow up. Please ensure you register using Club Runner.
