PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
A very important note to begin:
As from this Thursday 8th October we will be meeting from 6pm, this will enable us to find car parking easier, beat the queue to order meals, work on our committees and have our meals earlier.
I'm sorry if this is inconvenient for some of you, however it will assist us with engaging our members more productively.
This week will be our LIFT the LID on
Mental Health Night.
PLEASE wear your favourite or your funniest HAT.
*****************
We had another successful Coffee Morning on Thursday September 24th. Once again, we enjoyed getting to know each other on a more personal level and had the pleasure of Anne's Mum joining us.
Later that evening, Colin and I attended the Noble Park Dingley & Springvale City Rotary Clubs
joint fundraising event to support the books for school's project. This project came about years ago thanks to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by gifting free books to children from birth to age five.
These two clubs recognised the need for school aged children to have access to books; many have never had the pleasure of owning their own.
The local schools are extremely appreciated of the book donations.
The event raised $5,000 and will be matched by Dymocks, taking the amount to an incredible $10,000
Our meeting on Thursday 1st October was a very
productive project planning meeting with nine of us in attendance.
Thank you to those who sent through their apologies.
Projects Discussed:
Sri Lanka - Peter Weeresakera Children's Home in Gampaha, Sri Lanka.
Please check out and follow their Facebook page.
Howard led this discussion and will do a presentation for members in the near future; he will also provide details of the proposed project.
I have included a newspaper article, provided by Howard which is difficult to read in the newsletter, however we will share a printed copy at our next meeting.
Peter and Lois Faulkner will be travelling to Sri Lanka early in 2027 to visit the home; they will also travel to Northern Sri Lanka to have a look at the needs of the Tamil Community as identified by Viv during a visit
to Sri Lanka just over a year ago.
A meeting will be arranged for Howard, Viv and Peter Faulkner to discuss the project evaluation, community assessment and plan.
Mental Health and Crisis Support QR Code
This project involves ALL club members!
Thank you to Anne for offering to co-ordinate the project and to John Peck who will assist with the laminating of the flyers.
Every club member will be given some flyers to distribute in the local Community.
Leanne will contact Star News to discuss having an article in the local newspapers.
Member involvement: Contacting organisations,
shopping centres, medical centres, schools and other places in which they can be displayed, both prominently and discreetly.
We all believe that people of all ages would prefer not to be seen scanning the QR code but will do so in privacy.
A directory of where the flyers are being posted is essential, therefore everyone will keep a list of where they are able to post the flyers, then forward it to Anne.

Discussions also took place regarding our continued meals program with Cornerstone, a proposed joint project with our new Community Partner Members, Nourish (David Talathoti), Naomi (Cornerstone.
