President's Message
I'm pleased to seethat the new table layout at the club is working much better for fellowship. A table of six allows better conversations with a more friendly feeling about the night.
On this Saturday night, many of us will be attending the Gala Ball in support of Monash Children's Cancer fundraising, and I'm sure it will be a great night.
Well done to Leanne for her excellent work in organizing this event as part of the DG's Partners Project.

At our Club meeting on Tuesday, we were honoured to welcome Federal Member for Bruce, Julian Hill, Assistant Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, who delivered an exceptional presentation. Julian proved to be an impressive and engaging speaker, offering valuable insights into the issues and opportunities facing our community. His talk was not only informative but also sparked meaningful discussions, reflecting his deep commitment to serving his constituents with integrity and dedication.
Julian Hill represents the vibrant and diverse electorate of Bruce, which spans Melbourne’s southeastern suburbs. With a background rooted in public service, his career began in the Victorian Public Service, where he worked in various roles supporting local governments and community planning. Since his election to federal parliament in 2016, Julian has been a passionate advocate on issues such as education, social services, and immigration, championing policies that ensure fair opportunities for all.
In addition to his parliamentary duties, Julian is known for his active engagement in local initiatives. He frequently collaborates with community groups, supports local causes, and maintains a keen interest in youth and multicultural engagement. We were privileged to hear his perspectives and gain insight into his work; it was clear that he is genuinely dedicated to enhancing the lives of those in the Bruce community.
Malcolm Chiverton and Andrew Gould awarded 2024 Hans Ebeling Award
Congratulations to PDG Malcolm Chiverton, District 9815 Membership Chair, on receiving the esteemed Melbourne Cricket Club Hans Ebeling Award for his exceptional contributions to the MCC Baseball Club at Surrey Park, Box Hill.
The 2024 Sporting Sections Annual Dinner was held on Thursday, 7 November, celebrating the remarkable achievements of the MCC’s sporting sections over the past year.
The evening’s sentiment highlighted a strong sense of unity across all sections, with milestones recognized, interstate and international accomplishments celebrated, and diverse perspectives shared among hundreds of participants, coaches, volunteers, mentors, and past Hans Ebeling Award recipients.
Decades of dedicated service, unwavering determination, and an inspiring ability to empower others within a passionate sporting community define this year’s recipients of the prestigious Hans Ebeling Award, presented at the 2024 Sporting Sections Annual Dinner at the MCG.
MCC Baseball Section stalwart Malcolm Chiverton and MCC Real Tennis Chair Andrew Gould received this highest honor, joining the ranks of those celebrated for exceptional service to the Club’s sporting sections. The evening highlighted the remarkable talent, culture, and unity that thrive across the Club’s 14 sporting sections.
Invitation to Join the 16th Annual Walk Against Family Violence
In recognition of Rotary’s commitment to fostering safer communities, Vicki Ward MP, Minister for Prevention of Family Violence, has invited us to participate in the upcoming Walk Against Family Violence. This annual event will take place on Friday, 22 November, at 11:00 AM, beginning at Birrarung Marr (Upper Terrace) and concluding at Treasury Gardens.
The walk marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign initiated by the United Nations to combat violence against women and girls. These 16 days of activism begin on Monday, 25 November—International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women—and end on Human Rights Day, 10 December.
As leaders in our communities, Rotary members are encouraged to take part in this important movement, supporting efforts to end family violence and standing in solidarity with fellow Victorians. Members are asked to wear orange attire as a symbol of the cause, along with comfortable walking shoes.

Let us come together on this day to help create a safer community for all. Join us as we walk alongside Victorian leaders and residents to promote awareness and take a stand against family violence.
Dandenong West Primary School Community BBQ
Our club is supporting the upcoming Dandenong West Primary School Community Day by providing a BBQ trailer with Halal sausages, bread, sauces, and onions. This event is an opportunity for Rotary to engage with the community, continuing our long and successful involvement with DWPS and building on our strong public presence.
We need 5-6 volunteers to assist with setup, cooking, and serving from approximately 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm. This is a valuable chance to connect with local families, support the school’s community-focused initiatives, and demonstrate Rotary’s commitment to the area.

Our Annual General Meeting will be held on 26th November at the Dandenong Club.
We are now calling for nominations for the following vacant positions on our 2025/2026 Board:

As per our Club constitution, nominations must:
Be submitted in writing, signed by two members of the Club, and accompanied by the candidate's written consent (this may be endorsed on the nomination form).
Be delivered to the Secretary of the Club no later than 7 days prior to the 26th of November.
This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the future direction of our Club. We encourage members to consider nominating!

Invitation to District 9815-3 Rotary Club of Casey Monday, 18th November
We are very pleased to have accepted an invitation from Harpreet Kandra Singh (Cardinia Citizen of the Year in 2019) on behalf of the Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Darbar Officer (Sikh Temple Officer) to join them on the evening of Monday, 18th November 2024.
The meeting will commence at 6:00 pm and will be an interactive session followed by a complimentary vegetarian meal.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the sustainable projects undertaken by the Gurdwara and gain insights into the significant community work being carried out.
Harpreet has shared some background information on their community efforts, which will guide our discussions for the evening. You can explore more about their activities here.
The Gurdwara can accommodate a maximum of 50 people, so please RSVP as soon as possible.

The Annual Ride for Medical Research 2025
The next annual “Ride For Medical Research” will take place March 16 - 21, 2025, celebrating 40 years of fundraising. Having now raised over $1.32 million for Australian Rotary Health, we look forward to pushing this to over $ 1.4 million in the near future.
This will be the first ride organised under the banner of D9815.
Registration for this popular fundraising event will open in November 2024, with strictly limited places, so get in early to secure your place. (Cost for riders is $998.00, support crew/drivers $800.00)

Begun in 2021 as a way of helping to raise funds for Australian Rotary Health during Covid-19 lock downs, it continues now as a compliment to the annual bike ride. In the spirit of supporting healthy minds, bodies and communities, it allows anyone to take part in a manner that suits them anywhere in the world. (In fact, over the last 4 years we have had people join in from not only other parts of Australia, but also America, India, Indonesia and South Africa).
Participants can challenge the riders on the Annual Ride and see if they can cover 580km over the month of March, the Annual ride participants have to do it in 6 days, or they can choose their own form of exercise and set their own goals.
It is Free to join in, although not compulsory, all we ask is that participants try and raise some funds, via sponsorship, for Australian Rotary Health. The typical goal participants set is $200 and all donations of $2.00 or more are tax deductible.
All funds raised go direct to Australian Rotary Health.
So go on, challenge yourself, your Club and friends, join in the fun and Make A Differfence, to not only your health, help Australian Rotary Health make a difference to everyones health.

Rotary Membership Attendance Requirements
Attendance:
In accordance with our Club Constitution, members are required to attend at least 60% of the regular meetings of our club or another Rotary Club.
Membership Duration:
Membership is subject to automatic termination if a member no longer meets the attendance requirements.
Members must:
Attend or make up at least 50% of regular club meetings, satellite club meetings, or engage in club projects, events, and other activities totaling at least 12 hours per half-year, or achieve a proportionate combination of both.
Attend at least 30% of our Club’s regular meetings, satellite club meetings, or participate in club projects, events, and activities within each half-year.
The board may approve non-attendance for a valid reason.
All members are invited to contribute to our newsletter.
