Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Thank you to Howard De Zylva for the very interesting 'Behind the Badge' talk and the update on the Sri Lankan Orphanage.
'Behind the Badge' provides an opportunity to learn more about the lives and experiences of our fellow Rotarians.
I thank everyone in attendance at last week's meeting for completing my survey, it's a great way to get feedback from our members regarding their individual Rotary experiences.
The majority of us joined Rotary for the same reason, i.e. fellowship/friendship, to expand our networks, for personal development and 'to make a difference in the lives of others'.
There are so many opportunities within our club to help out in our Community and on International projects, to join in the fundraising activities and social get togethers and have FUN.
My personal feedback is that I have really missed the fellowship upon arrival of Rotarians and guests.
I will be implementing a change this week, which I have wanted to do for quite some time.
My request is that, as you arrive at the Dandenong Club, please order a drink and enjoy a chat with each other prior to ordering our meals.
This is something that our club always used to do. I have really missed the greetings and welcoming of others. I believe it creates a more friendly and relaxed environment.
We will then hand out the menu's and place our orders, hopefully the meals will come out fairly quickly.
We have had a great year so far and achieved so much, we always have plenty on offer for our members, so please read the newsletter and keep your eye on ClubRunner events so that you can join in any of the activities you wish to.
We have visited other clubs, enjoyed social nights out, in-house social nights at the Dandenong Club, Calcutta (Melb Cup) event, a Trivia night in support of RC of Boronia,
our Christmas Dinner, Barefoot Bowls, Bunnings BBQ's the 'Major Roads' BBQ (the opening of the Hallam-Belgrave & Heatherton Road Intersection upgrade), Fundraising events with other clubs, CNY Celebration and Fundraiser for the Monash Children's Cancer Centre, donated money to assist the Victorian Flood victims and the recent Turkey Earthquake disaster. We have also had the opportunity to listen to some wonderful guest speakers.
I'm looking back and wondering how on earth we've fitted it all in!
Our very own Disaster Aid always does a magnificent job responding to World wide disasters. Please check you inboxes for an email I have forwarded from District regarding the Turkey/Syria/New Zealand Relief Appeal. Our club has donated $2,000
which was approved by the Board. Personal donations would be greatly appreciated and are tax deductable.
Of course there is always more to be done and achieved.
If you are unsure in anyway of what you can do to help or become more involved, please call or text me on 0402 242 743 or email: leannebyron59@gmail.com
We have the opportunity to meet almost every week and we also have the choice not to attend if we have other commitments.
However, please remember to respond on ClubRunner or let Martin Pater know if you will be attending or declining for all events.
To improve your Rotary experience and gain further knowledge and satisfaction, my suggestion is that you attend the District Assembly on Saturday 22nd April at Nossal High School in Berwick.
Colin, Cherie and myself will all be going and we'd would love to have all our new members join us, along with other members of our club.
The three of us attended the Presidents Elect Training in Traralgon this weekend and it was truly amazing and inspiring. Phillip Thurgood (our District Insurance Officer) was also in attendance, giving his Insurance Presentation (via video) whilst enjoying a well deserved holiday in Bali.
There is so much more to Rotary than the 'snapshot' we get at our club.
We have invited 2 Guest Speakers along this week:
Richard Parker from Hand Brake Turn and Martin Green from Beleura House:
Hand Brake Turn assists young people between 15-25 years to transition into education and employment pathways through a 5 week training program offering three days per week of technical skills practice and life skill development.
Beleura House is a state-listed 19th Century heritage house built on the Mornington Peninsula.
ON A FINAL NOTE, we have a BBQ meal at Cornerstone on Thursday night, 23rd February. I am looking for volunteers to help out on the night and/or prepare a salad or two for the meal.
See you on Tuesday!
Kind regards,
Leanne
