President's Message

Hi fellow Rotarians,

On Tuesday night we heard from President Elect Cherie Ramsay about her plans for the new Rotary Year, along with the announcement of the incoming Committee.
Cherie's focus will be on Youth, with the hope of supporting candidates for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) and the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF).
The club will continue the important work and projects already established in the local community and overseas and will continue to work with our new contacts which have been made throughout this Rotary Year in the Community and Schools.
We can certainly look forward to another successful and very busy year.

I'd like to thank all our volunteers for their great work at the Bunnings BBQ today.  The Board all agreed that the funds raised today will be used to support the Springvale Benevolent Society.

RYLA:  Many thanks to David Langworthy who has nominated a Candidate for RYLA , its fabulous for our club to have a representative at this fantastic event.

On Tuesday the USA Friendship Exchange guests will be visting DAA, Cornerstone and having lunch at a local restaurant, followed by dinner in Mt Eliza.

The International Convention starts on Saturday 27th May until Wednesday 31st May.
If you are interested in Registering for a FREE 3-day House of Friendship pass, you can register at the Registration desk - MCEC Exhibition Centre doors 1 & 2.  Complimentary passes are valid Monday 29th - Wednesday 31st May.
All Rotarians should have received an email regarding the free pass.  If you haven't received your email, details are on this newsletter.
David Langworthy spoke about what an amazing opportunity this is for all Rotarians at our meeting last Tuesday.

Don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity to meet Rotarians from around the world and learn more about what Rotary has to offer.

I was planning to send an email on Wednesday asking who will be attending the Convention and may be interested in getting together sometime during the convention for lunch/dinner or even a coffee.
Due to the circumstances which unexpectedly arose this week, I didn't get around to it.
Please let me know if you will be at the convention so that we can organise a 'get together' at some stage.

Our CORNERSTONE meal service is scheduled for this Thursday night, which I will confirm, hopefully tomorrow.
I am waiting on a reply from Naomi regarding the kitchen.  If it is not ready, I have told Naomi that we may have to withdraw from Thursday.  Otherwise, we could order take away e.g. chicken & chips and have it delivered and we would only require a couple of volunteers to distribute the meals.

I'll send an email out as soon as I have confirmation.

Hopefully you have all seen the emails regarding Colin, who is currently in Mulgrave Private Hospital.  He is improving but will remain in hospital for a few more days or until he is completely stabilised.
Both Colin and I would like to thank everyone for their messages and offers of support, it means a great deal to us and is greatly appreciated.

THERE WILL BE a meeting on Tuesday night, so please register on ClubRunner or let Martin know if you are attending.

Kind regards,

End Polio Now Walk - Melbourne

End Polio Now Walk

End Polio Now Walk

Melbourne is renowned for its beautiful parks, gardens and walking trails. Join us on the afternoon of Friday 26 May to enjoy an easy walk from Federation Square, in the centre of the city, along the magnificent St Kilda Road boulevard, past many of the city’s finest landmarks, to reach the Rotary Peace Park.

The 2.5 km (1.5 mile) Walk will enable us to raise awareness of Rotary’s number one humanitarian priority – the global eradication of poliomyelitis. Don’t forget to bring your red End Polio Now shirt. Photo opportunities will abound.

In the Peace Park you will find trees ‘dedicated’ to more than 50 distinguished Rotarians, including many world presidents. The first tree in the park was planted by Paul Harris in 1935. Four Peace Bells will be unveiled in the park during the 2023 Rotary International Convention, and they will serve as the convention’s legacy to Melbourne. This initiative is supported by the City of Melbourne, Rotary International and the Royal Botanic Gardens.

At the end of the walk, you will be able to explore the Peace Park, wander through the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens or relax in one of the adjacent cafes and bars.

Registration Fee AUD $20
