In last week's Club bulletin, we did not have an update on our meeting held on June 7th. Editor Con has provided the following summary:

Meeting 7 June 2022
As reported by Pres Peter on Club Runner, the live-cross to the school at Ella, in
Sri Lanka, stuttered and eventually died due to technical limitations of
insufficient bandwidth to carry video images. After a late start, as they grappled
with their limitations, we caught only static glimpses of the school, some
teachers and pupils and missed out on seeing the well. This was particularly
disappointing because our Friend of Rotary, Mel Bell, and your Editor had put a
lot of work into bringing this about. The school children were also disappointed
because they had prepared a concert item for us, and they were all gathered in
their assembly hall in expectation. We have asked them to prepare a video of
the intended program and send it to us. Hopefully, we will be able to view it at
a later date.

(Sharp eyes might be able to spot PP Susan Collier second from the right. It was great to see her back after a long absence. Susan was President of the Dandenong Rotary Club and involved in the decision to merge.)

Nevertheless, this was a great achievement all round, as the school now has drinking quality water all year. The total cost of around $3,600, half funded by a District Grant, was an illustration of how much of a lasting difference Clubs and Districts can make in the World, without having to resort to the “mega-projects” insisted on by some at RI.

Mel gave a brief update on the happenings with the RORP playground removal and recycling projects completed recently and upcoming.
Con spoke of a Project Approval Application lodged with the Board for urgent repairs needed to the Brand New Day building. In anticipation, Neil had measured up, ordered and taken delivery of the timber required, using his contacts to obtain supply, despite the well-publicised shortages. He is organising two carpenters for a day to, at least, replace the rotting pergola.  The Board will consider if the Members can be corralled into doing the interior painting.
The usual fines took place, along with a “two up” raffle, to supplement the ticketed raffle. In all, some $140 was raised on the night.
