Andrew Ponniah was awarded his Shine On Award by PDG Charlie Spiers on Tuesday night. Andrew was a great junior swimmer at
North Lodge Swimming Academy. At the age of 16 Andrew's sinuses ruptured following a significant infection. This developed into
an Acquired Brain Injury. He had to re-learn everything from talking, walking etc. At 17 he re-entered the water to re-learn to swim.
Leanne re-taught him without normal communication. From then on Andrew has been able to re-learn to live. Initially disabled youth
were housed in old peoples home. Andrew now lives independently in Dandenong. He works at Dandenong Primary School as their
gardener. He also teaches Sunday School at his local church.
